1.2 Health and Fitness Data
To provide personalized coaching, we collect:
- Height, weight, age, and gender
- Activity level and fitness goals
- Food photos and meal logs
- Weight tracking history
- Exercise data (if you log it)
- Chat messages with the AI coach (retained for 7 days, then auto-deleted)
1.3 Device and Usage Data
We automatically collect:
- Device type and operating system
- App usage patterns and feature interactions
- Crash reports and performance data
1.4 Mood and Wellness Data
To provide better coaching, we collect:
- Daily mood check-ins (optional)
- Exercise logs you manually enter
- Notes and feedback you provide
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your data to:
- Provide AI coaching: Analyze your food photos, calculate nutrition, generate personalized recommendations, and power conversational AI coach chat
- Track your progress: Show weight trends, calorie budgets, and goal progress
- Send notifications: Deliver coaching tips, reminders, and motivation (you can opt out)
- Improve our service: Analyze anonymized, aggregated data to enhance AI accuracy
- Process payments: Handle subscription billing through Apple/Google
3. AI Processing and Third-Party Services
3.1 AI Provider
We use Google Gemini (operated by Google LLC) as our AI provider for food analysis and coaching features.
3.2 Data Sent to AI Provider
When you use AI-powered features, the following data may be sent to Google Gemini for processing:
- Food photos you take or upload for analysis
- Meal descriptions and food-related text you provide
- Chat messages you send to the AI coach, along with recent conversation history (up to 7 days) for context
- Weight and goal data (current weight, target weight, goal type)
- Profile information (age, gender, activity level, dietary preferences)
- Daily activity data (calories consumed, exercise logged, mood) for personalized chat responses
3.3 Purpose
Data is sent to Google Gemini solely for:
- Estimating calorie and nutritional content of food photos
- Generating personalized coaching insights and recommendations
- Powering conversational AI coaching responses in the chat feature
- Generating proactive coach messages triggered by user activity (e.g., logging a meal or weighing in)
- Calculating personalized calorie and macro targets during onboarding
3.4 Data Protection
- Photos are not stored: Food photos are processed in real-time and immediately deleted. They are not retained by Google Gemini.
- No advertising use: Your data is not used for advertising purposes.
- No AI model training: Your data is not used to train or improve AI models.
- No data selling: Your data is never sold to third parties.
3.5 Explicit Consent Requirement
You must provide explicit consent before any data is sent to Google Gemini for AI processing. Consent is requested in-app before your first use of AI features. You may:
- Grant consent at any time via the in-app consent dialog or in Settings > Privacy > AI Processing
- Revoke consent at any time in Settings > Privacy > AI Processing. Revoking consent immediately disables all AI-powered features (photo analysis and coaching insights). No further data will be sent to Google Gemini.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We may share data with:
- Service providers: Cloud hosting (secure servers), payment processors (Apple/Google), AI services (Google Gemini)
- Legal requirements: If required by law or to protect our rights
- Business transfers: In case of merger or acquisition (with notice to you)
5. Data Security
We protect your data using:
- Encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS)
- Encrypted database storage
- Secure password hashing (bcrypt)
- Regular security audits
- Access controls and monitoring
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of your personal data
- Correction: Update inaccurate information
- Deletion: Delete your account and all associated data
- Export: Download your data in a portable format
- Opt-out: Disable notifications and marketing emails

7. Data Retention
- Active accounts: Data retained while your account is active
- Deleted accounts: Data permanently deleted within 30 days
- Unverified accounts: Automatically deleted after 48 hours
- Food photos: Deleted immediately after AI analysis
- Chat messages: Automatically deleted after 7 days (rolling window)
8. Age Requirement
AI Weight Coach is intended for adults 18 years of age and older. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe someone under 18 has provided us with personal information, contact us immediately.
9. International Users
Your data may be processed in the European Union and/or the United States. We comply with GDPR for EU users and implement appropriate safeguards for international data transfers.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy periodically. We will notify you of significant changes via email or in-app notification. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
